Traditional Predator-prey models focus on various types of functional responses in predation mechanism which is direct effect of predator on prey, but ignore the fear effect which is indirect. Based on some recent field experimental studies, such an indirect effect can be as significant as the direct one. In this talk, I will report some of our recent results in modifying some predator-prey models by incorporating the prey's anti-predation responses due to fear of predators. Various types of responses are considered, including reducing the productions and increasing mobility, leading to various types of differential equations. These results not only reveal some interesting phenomena in the trade-offs between benefits and cost resulted from the anti-predation responses, they also suggest a need of re-visiting many (if not all) existing predator-prey models.

邹幸福教授,加拿大西安大略大学(University of Western Ontario)自然科学院应用数学系终身教授,博士生导师。主要从事泛函微分方程、应用动力系统等方面的研究,在泛函微分⽅程与应⽤动⼒系统研究领域取得了⼀系列有影响的创新成果。同时在生物生态模型和神经网络模型等方面也有很好的研究基础,在生物数学领域具有非常高的国际知名度,并在《J. Diff. Eqns.》、《J. Dyn. Diff. Eqns.》 、《Bull. Math. Biol.》、《J. Math. Biol.》、《Math. Biosci.》等国际杂志发表相关学术论文100余篇。其中获得美国《数学评论》检索100多篇,Google Scholar检索引用5000 多次(近五年2000多次),最高单篇引用次数400多次, H指标37;Scopus检索引用4000多次,最高单篇引用次数300多次 ,H指标33。出版外文学术专著8部;主持加拿大各类项目19项,其中主持加拿大自然科学与工程研究基金会探索项目5项(该项目相当于我国自然科学基金面上项目)。曾获加拿⼤国家⾃然科学和⼯程基⾦博⼠后奖,Petro-Canada青年研究创新奖,安⼤略省长杰出研究奖,SIAM Review的SIGEST论⽂奖等。邹教授现担任Applicable Analysis、Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering、Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics和Communications on Pure and Applied Analysis、International Journal of Differential Equations等国际学术期刊的编委,Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems共同主编。
